Benita Posella

Benita Posella, 79, of 114 Elberon Ave., died Friday after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in Pittsfield on March 16, 1923, daughter of Vincenzo A. and Mary Carnute Bruni, she graduated Pro Merito in 1940 from Pittsfield High School. She also graduated with honors in 1941 from Bay Path Institute of Commerce in Springfield, completing the two-year course in 11 months. She moved to Santa Barbara, Calif., and returned to Pittsfield in 1987.

Mrs. Posella was assistant director of the housing authority at the University of California at Santa Barbara for 20 years, retiring in 1987. Prior to that, she had been employed by GE Ordnance and engineering.

She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church before moving to California and enjoyed dancing, flowers, entertaining and education.

Her husband, Charles J. Posella, whom she married on June 25, 1949, died Dec. 30, 1987.

She leaves three daughters, Alyson Posella of Pittsfield and Williamsburg, N.Y., with whom she resided, Karyn Posella of Roswell, Ga., and Marilyn Posella of Leucadia, Calif., and a brother, Pasquale A. "Pat" Bruni of Pittsfield.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Benita Bruni Posella, 79, died March 7, 2003. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield. The funeral will be Tuesday at 8:15 at the funeral home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 at St. Joseph's Church by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor.

The family will receive friends at the home of Alyson Posella, 114 Elberon Ave., immediately after the burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery. She is also survived by her sons-in-law, Richard R. Reed Jr. and James Petronella, and her nephew, Jebin H. Bruni of Los Angeles. She was predeceased by her brother Peter Bruni and her sister, Marion T. Bruni.
