Minnie Julia Patterson

Minnie Julia Patterson, 105, of 20 Revilla Terrace, died Friday evening at home.

Born in Utica, N.Y., on Feb. 5, 1898, daughter of Frederick and Rose Klossner Humphrey, she attended schools in Ilion, N.Y., and was a 1940 graduate of the former Berkshire Business College. She was a longtime resident of Stephentown, N.Y., before moving to Pittsfield 16 years ago.

Mrs. Patterson was a bookkeeper for Berkshire Plate Glass Co., retiring in 1973. She also had been head bookkeeper at the former Frank Howard Inc. from 1941 until the business ceased operations. She served from 1937 until 1939 as the town clerk for Stephentown.

She was a member of Federated Church in Stephentown and of its Ladies' Aid Society. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, quilting, reading, traveling and sharing stories about her youth.

Her husband, Joseph Patterson, died in 1968.

She leaves a daughter, Mildred H. Murphy of Pittsfield, with whom she resided; a sister, Elizabeth Barnes of Amsterdam, N.Y.; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Minnie J. Patterson, 105, who died March 7, 2003, will be conducted Monday, March 10, at 11 at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, by the Rev. William D. Furey. Burial will take place in the spring in Garfield Cemetery, Stephentown, N.Y., at the convenience of the family.

Calling hours will be Monday from 9:30 until time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home. She also is survived by her three grandchildren, Robert Alderman, Linda Garney and Cheryl Hill, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Judith Converse, in October 2000.
