Joseph Steinberg

Joseph Steinberg, 84, of Devonshire Estates died Monday morning at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Born in Philadelphia on Oct. 1, 1918, son of Charles and Fanny Steinberg, he graduated from Temple University with a degree in pharmacy in 1942.

He owned his own pharmacy in Philadelphia and worked as a pharmacist there until his retirement in 1994. He enjoyed visiting the Berkshires and moved to Lenox in 1998.

Mr. Steinberg was a member of Temple Anshe Amunim. He was president of the Resident's Council at Hillcrest Commons the past two years. An avid reader, he was always up to date on current issues and world events.

He leaves his wife, the former Frances Kurland, whom he married March 29, 1942.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Frederic E. Steinberg of Manhattan and Ashley Falls; two daughters, Cindy Steinberg of Arlington and Linda Schwartz of Dallas; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Joseph Steinberg, age 84, died March 3, 2003. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 7, at 2 at Temple Anshe Amunim, 26 Broad St., with Rabbi Dennis Ross officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery, Wahconah Street, Temple section.

The family will receive friends at the home of Frances Steinberg, Devonshire Estates, Garden Suite 411, 329 Pittsfield Road, Lenox, on Saturday evening, March 8, starting at 7. Memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation in care of the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
