Daniel M. Dudley Sr., 74, of 111 Lebanon Ave., died Saturday afternoon at Berkshire Medical Center shortly after being admitted.
Born in Danbury, Conn., on Aug. 15, 1928, son of John and Mary Mahoney Dudley, he attended schools in Lanesboro and Pittsfield and graduated from Pittsfield High School.
Mr. Dudley was employed with Bedard Brothers in Cheshire and helped open its auto body shop. He had owned and operated the former Dan's Auto Body on East Street from 1955 until selling the business in 1979. Previously, he worked at the former Shapiro Motors and the former Joselyn Dodge on North Street.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church. A fan of NASCAR and Jeff Gordon, he raced stock cars at Lebanon Valley Speedway in New York from 1955 to 1972.
He and his wife, the former Dorothy Martin, were married May 18, 1957, in St. Mark's Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Daniel M. Dudley Jr. of Cheshire; a brother, Joseph Dudley of Texas; a sister, Mary Contenta of Seattle; a granddaughter, a stepgranddaughter and a stepgrandson.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Daniel M. Dudley, 74, died March 1, 2003. The funeral will be Thursday at 8:15 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 at St. Joseph's Church by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. He also is survived by his loving granddaughter, Gabriel Dudley and his stepgrandchildren Ashley and Jes Witto. He was predeceased by a brother, John Dudley.
