David E. Daniels

David E. Daniels, 56, of 26 Edward Ave. died Thursday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Rutland, Vt., on June 19, 1946, son of Frederick J. and Althea Baker Daniels, he graduated from Lenox High School in 1964. He graduated sigma cum laude in 1973 from Berkshire Community College, where he earned an associate of science degree in environmental sciences.
In 1976, he graduated from the former North Adams State College with a degree in social sciences and earned his Massachusetts certification for secondary education. In 1995 he earned a master's degree in special education from American International College in Springfield.
A Vietnam veteran, he served in the Air Force from 1967 to 1971. As a sergeant, he served as crew chief supervisor, jet aircraft mechanic, dispatcher, and inspector of aircraft at E-7 skill level.
From 1976 to 1988, Daniels worked as a production manager and shipping and receiving manager for Berkshire Unlimited, a program of the Berkshire County Association for Retarded Citizens. Most recently he was employed at Boyd Converting in Lee for several years.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and a member of the North Adams State College Alumni Association. He enjoyed model trains and planes, history and astronomy. He was an altar server at St. Vincent de Paul church in Lenox Dale from age 8 until graduation from high school, and a Boy Scout, for which he received a special badge for environmental protection.
He leaves his wife, the former Theresa M. Hoxie, whom he married June 1, 1974; a son, David J. Daniels of Pittsfield; two sisters, Thea E. Diegel of Los Lunas, N.M., and Gae Lynn Sanderson of Stephentown, N.Y.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- David Edward Daniels, who died Thursday, Feb. 27, is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 3, at 10:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11, at Sacred Heart Church, celebrated by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor. Following cremation, burial will be at the convenience of the family in Mountain View Cemetery in Lenox. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home.
