Lillian E. Cohen, 74, of 262 Appleton Ave. died yesterday morning at Berkshire Place.
Born in Brookline on Dec. 22, 1928, daughter of Julius and Freida Brooks Talmanson, she graduated from Brookline High School in 1946 and from New York University in 1950. She received her master's degree from Hunter College.
Mrs. Cohen was a teacher and guidance counselor in New Rochelle, Mount Pleasant and Hastings, N.Y., for 15 years, retiring in 1987.
She was an active member of Knesset Israel Synagogue, B'nai B'rith and Hadassah, and had been a board member of Jewish Federation of the Berkshires. She was also active at Tanglewood and the Berkshire Institute for Lifetime Learning, and had volunteered at Berkshire Medical Center.
Her husband, Alex Cohen, whom she married June 4, 1950, died April 6, 1998.
She leaves two sons, Jeffrey A. Cohen of Pittsfield and Howard S. Cohen of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.; a daughter, Beth F. Barusek of the Bronx, N.Y., and three grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Lillian E. Cohen, age 74, died Feb. 19, 2003. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Lori Cohen; her son-in-law, Adam Barusek; three grandchildren, Amy Elyse and Noah Matthew Cohen, and Lucas Alexander Barusek. Her brothers Bernard E. and Maurice Talmanson and her sister, Helen S. Talmanson, predeceased her. The funeral will be today, Thursday, at 2 at Knesset Israel Synagogue, 16 Colt Road, with Rabbi Lynn Liberman, spiritual leader, officiating. Burial will follow in Knesset Israel Cemetery, Peck's Road, Pittsfield. The family will receive guests Thursday after the burial at the Knesset Israel Library until 7, with minyan observed at 5:30.
