Alice Z. Avedian, 93, of Cameron House, died Tuesday morning at home.
Born in Jamaica Plain on Dec. 27, 1909, daughter of Hagop and Anna Nalbanjian Mansourian, she was raised in Haverhill and lived most of her adult life in Newburyport and Salisbury. She came to the Berkshires 10 years ago and moved to the Cameron House two years ago. Mrs. Avedian was employed as a forelady in the shoe industry for many years.
She was a member of the Lenox Senior Center, and a member and past president of the Cameron House Resident Council. While in Salisbury, she was a member of and activities director for the Senior Center. She attended First Church of Christ, Congregational in Pittsfield and enjoyed gardening, cooking and, especially, bingo.
Her husband, Jack H. Avedian, whom she married in August 1931, died in December 1960.
She leaves two daughters, Deborah Flynn of Pittsfield and Joan Updike-Martin of Surprise, Ariz., eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Jeanette Talbot, died in 1990.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Alice Z. Avedian, who died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, also leaves her beloved sons-in-law, David Flynn of Pittsfield, and Richard Martin of Surprise, Ariz., as well as her eight grandchildren, Jack Updike of Phoenix, Ariz.; Kenneth Updike of Sturbridge; Michael Talbot and Jack Talbot, both of Salisbury; Kate Flynn of Malden; Keely Flynn of Chicago, and Rachel Flynn and Emily Flynn, both of Pittsfield. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Services for Mrs. Avedian will be private, with burial to be held in the spring. Contributions in her memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
