Joan A. Smith, 69, of 14 Curtin Ave., died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 12, 1933, daughter of Eva Wilber Hood of Pittsfield and the late John W. Hood, she attended local schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1951.
She worked for the former Liggetts Drug Store for 10 years, then worked at Mack's Drug. She, along with her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Diane Smith, opened Smitty's luncheonette on Wahconah Street in 1975.
She then went to work for Berkshire Medical Center as a dietary aide, retiring in 1994 after 17 years.
She was a communicant of St. Charles' Church. She was a member of ITAM and the Senior Center. She enjoyed being around people and spending time at the Berkshire Mall with her friends.
Besides her mother, with whom she made her home, she leaves a son, Robert J. Smith of Pittsfield; a brother, Robert W. Hood of Pittsfield; a sister, Carol A. Latini of Pittsfield, and two grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Joan A. Smith, 69, died in Pittsfield on Friday, Feb. 14. She will be dearly missed by her mother, Eva Hood, with whom she made her home, and her beloved grandchildren, Justin and Danielle. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 10:15 from the DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 in St. Charles' Church, celebrated by the Rev. Daniel B. Brunton, chaplain of Providence Care of Lenox, officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be at the funeral home tomorrow, from 4 to 8. If friends desire, donations may be made in her memory to the Kid's Place, in care of the Dwyer Funeral Home.
