Dorothy H. Velika, 81, formerly of 16 1/2 Donovan St., died Thursday evening at Springside of Pittsfield Health Care Facility, where she had resided for one week.
Born in Newton on May 18, 1921, daughter of Henry and Mary Melanson Herlihy, she attended schools in Lee and was a resident of Pittsfield for most of her life.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed counted cross-stitching. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church.
She leaves her husband Frank J. Velika, whom she married Dec. 1, 1945; a daughter, Barbara DeWitt of Pittsfield; a son, Daniel J. Velika of Pittsfield; a sister, Mary Thompson of Pittsfield; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Dorothy H. Velika, 81, of Pittsfield died on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003. Beloved grandmother to Christine Salvie and Kim Murray and loving great-grandmother to Brian Salvie, Matthew Salvie, Brandon Murray and Sierra Murray. Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 17, at 8:15 from the DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 in St. Joseph's Church, celebrated by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 2 to 5 at the funeral home. If friends desire, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
