Edmund J. Hospod

Edmund J. Hospod, 77, of 114 Harryel St. died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Adams on Sept. 1, 1925, son of Antoni and Magalena Guzdek Hospod, he was a 1943 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a graduate of the GE drafting apprentice course.

A Navy veteran of World War II, he served as an aviation machinist's mate, second class, aerial gunner, stationed in Gibraltar. Mr. Hospod was a senior draftsman at GE for 42 years, retiring in 1986.

He was a communicant of Holy Family Church, where he served as a lector and assisted in collections. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century, Pensioners' and Quality Time Travel clubs, GE Athletic Association, Polish Community Club, American Legion Post 68 and the Pontoosuc Lake Country Club, where he played in the Monday Night Golf League.

He enjoyed gardening, traveling, polka dancing, watching football and baseball, and was a fan of the New York Yankees.

He leaves his wife, the former Susan J. Koldys, whom he married Nov. 9, 1957, in Holy Family Church. A daughter, Theresa M. Hospod, died in 1962.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Edmund J. Hospod, 77, died in Pittsfield on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003. Beloved brother-in-law to Virginia M. Koldys, Cecelia K. Rainka and Jessie Hospod. The funeral will be Friday, Feb. 14, at 8:15 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 in Holy Family Church by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, Feb. 13, from 3 to 7 at the funeral home. He was predeceased by four brothers, Bruno, John, Philip and Stephen Hospod, and a sister, Victoria A. Mann. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to Holy Family Church or to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home.
