James P. Gasser

James P. Gasser, 96, of PineHill at Kimball Farms died yesterday at home.
Born in New York City on May 6, 1906, son of Roy and Josephine Wise Gasser, he was a 1925 graduate of Exeter Preparatory School. He also graduated from Yale University in 1929 with a degree in engineering. He moved to Lenox seven years ago.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was discharged with the rank of captain.
Mr. Gasser was employed by Dresser Industries Inc. as an executive vice president, retiring in the early 1970s. He directed a number of Dresser companies: Lane Wells, Ideaco, Magnet Cove Barium, Security Engineering, Well Surveys, Dresser Dynamics, Southwestern Industrial Electronics, Hermetic Seal Transformer and the turbo drill division. Previously, he was an executive vice president and executive committee member for many years with Seaboard Oil Co., which was purchased by Texaco. His primary duties included finding locations and negotiating oil leases for drilling.
His wife, the former Cornelia McCutchen, whom he married July 23, 1974, died July 1994. He leaves several nieces and nephews, including his caregivers Richard K. Stover Jr. and Holly H. Stover of Richmond.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Following cremation, private graveside services for James P. Gasser will be held in Nassau-Knolls Cemetery on Long Island, N.Y. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
