Joseph M. Schnopp, 83, of 629 Hancock Road died Saturday at home.
Born in Hinsdale on April 29, 1919, son of Francis and Johanna Butler Schnopp, he attended schools there and in Dalton. He moved to Pittsfield in 1946.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. A licensed heavy-duty equipment and licensed steamfitter operator, Mr. Schnopp was employed in the maintenance department of Berkshire Medical Center, retiring in 1976 after 17 years of service.
He was a communicant of St. Charles' Church.
His wife, the former Katherine E. Zahn, whom he married June 29, 1946, in St. Joseph's Church, died Jan. 28, 2001.
He leaves three sons, Michael J. Schnopp of Clarksburg, and Ronald E. Schnopp and Timothy J. Schnopp, both of Pittsfield; three daughters, Susan K. O'Brien, with whom he made his home, Donna M. Schnopp of Pittsfield and JoAnn Stevens of Vero Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Francis Schnopp of Dalton and David Schnopp of Taunton; 11 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Another son, James M. Schnopp, died May 1, 2002.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Joseph M. Schnopp died in Pittsfield on Saturday, Feb. 1. The funeral will be tomorrow, Feb. 4, at 9:15 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Charles' Church celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, Feb. 3, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home.
If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to Berkshire VNA or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, both in care of the funeral home. Mr. Schnopp was predeceased by his wife Katherine, his son James, his granddaughter Darylann Maschino, and three brothers, Harry of Hinsdale, Richard of Dalton and John of Westfield.
