Leonard A. Bona, 66, of 75 Roaring Brook Road, died Thursday night at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on July 27, 1936, son of Leila Merletto Bona and the late Lawrence Bona, he was educated in Lenox and Pittsfield schools.
A welder, he was employed by E.D. Jones, retiring in 1996. Prior to E.D. Jones, he worked for Sampson Hydraulics, Nuclear Components and Hamilton Standard.
He was active in the National Rifle Association and was an NRA-certified pistol instructor. He was a member of the Lenox and Stockbridge sportsman's clubs and the Single Action Shooting Society. For many years, he raced cars at Lebanon Valley Speedway.
Besides his mother, he leaves his wife, the former Ann M. Tocchio, whom he married March 3, 1993.
He also leaves two sons, Lawrence Bona of Olympia, Wash., and Glenn Bona of Pittsfield; five daughters, Teresa Ailshire of San Antonio, Texas, Carole Bona of Aurora, Colo., Leila Portell of Downersgrove, Ill., Geri Bona of Exeter, N.H., and Lenora Vickery of Anderson, S.C.; a sister, Arline Callan of Lenox; and 14 grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Leonard A. Bona, who died Thursday, Jan. 30, will be private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Feb. 2, from 4 to 7 at DERY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Bona may be made to the American Diabetes Association in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
