William E. "Punch" Demary Sr

William E. "Punch" Demary Sr., 82, of 56 Gilbert St. died Saturday at the home of his son, William E. Demary Jr. of 17 Richardson St.

Born in Hinsdale on Sept. 9, 1920, son of Walter and Maude Lewis Demary, he was educated in Hinsdale and Dalton schools and lived most of his life in Pittsfield.

A truck driver, he was employed by the former Fahey Beverage for 33 years, retiring in 1985. He was a communicant of St. Mark's Church and enjoyed gardening, fishing and playing the lottery.

His wife, the former Irene Wehry, died May 10, 1999.

He leaves two daughters, Kathleen M. Penna and Lyn M. Gunthier, both of Pittsfield; three sons, Dennis Demary of Groton, Conn., and William E. Demary Jr. and Richard Demary, both of Pittsfield; a stepson, Conrad Drain of Cheshire; a brother, Marshall Demary of Pittsfield; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and a foster grandson.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for William E. "Punch" Demary Sr., who died Jan. 25, 2003, will be Wednesday at 10:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Mark's Church.

Burial will follow in St. Jospeh's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 3 to 6 at the funeral home. He was predeceased by five sisters, seven brothers and a grandson, Scott E. Demary, who died in 1989.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
