Kathleen E. Mattia, 73, of 65 Columbus Ave. died Tuesday morning at home after a brief illness.
Born in Buffalo, N.Y., on April 12, 1929, daughter of Merrill R. and Marian Geerholt Burns, she moved to Pittsfield as an infant with her family. She was a graduate of Pittsfield High School.
She was employed as an inspector at GE for 22 years, retiring in 1989. In her earlier years, she had worked at Berkshire Medical Center.
Following her retirement, she moved to Stephentown, N.Y., and returned to Pittsfield in 1998. She enjoyed arts and crafts, crocheting and making gifts and ornaments.
She leaves three sons, William Mattia of Burbank, Calif., Robert Mattia of Stephentown, and James Mattia of Cheshire; a daughter, Coralie Dewey of Stephentown; a brother, Gerald Burns of Stephentown; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She also leaves her former husband, William A. Mattia of Pittsfield.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Kathleen E. Burns Mattia, age 73, died Jan. 14, 2003. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Shari Mattia of Cheshire, and her lifelong friend, Theresa Wyand of Pittsfield.
There will be no calling hours. Funeral services and burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family. The DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201 is in charge of arrangements.
