Catherine Connolly, 83, of 36 Edward Ave. died yesterday morning at Springside of Pittsfield, where she had resided since January 2000.
Born in Pittsfield on June 25, 1919, daughter of C. Arthur and Ruth Duba McGill, she graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1937 and from the former Berkshire Business College in 1938.
Mrs. Connolly was employed by the Pittsfield Public Schools in the administration department for 12 years. She had previously worked for the Department of Public Works. She retired in 1981.
She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles and going to St. Joseph's High School basketball games.
Her husband, John "Ray" Connolly, whom she married June 14, 1947, died June 22, 1981.
She leaves four sons, Michael Connolly and Kevin Connolly, both of Pittsfield, Christopher Connolly of Concord, N.H., and Timothy Connolly of Worcester; a daughter, Mary Anderson of Pittsfield; a sister, Sister Mary Domenica of the Sisters of Providence in Holyoke, and six grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Catherine McGill Connolly, 83, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003. She was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur C. and Joseph P. McGill. Calling hours will be today, Jan. 6, from 4 to 7 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME.
The funeral will be tomorrow at 10:15 from the funeral home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by the Rev. Michael Duffy, OFM, Mrs. Connolly's godson, and the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to St. Francis' Inn or to Sacred Heart Church, both in care of the funeral home, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
