Helen R. Nieratka, 86, of 1035 North St. died Wednesday morning at home. She had been a resident of Pittsfield for seven years.
Born in Detroit on April 27, 1916, daughter of Walter and Rose Piotrowski, she graduated from St. Charles' High School in Newport, Mich., and attended Monroe (Mich.) Community College.
She was employed as a teacher's assistant at Sodt Elementary School in Newport for 10 years, retiring in 1990.
Her husband, Steave Nieratka, whom she married in Detroit in 1938, died in 1973.
She leaves a son, Ernest Nieratka of Pittsfield; three brothers, Frank Piotrowski of Lakeport, Mich., Bruno Piotrowski of New Baltimore, Mich., and Wally Piotrowski of MaComb, Mich.; a sister, Ann Emerick of Monroe, Mich.; and two grandsons. A daughter, Sister Dolores Nieratka, Sisters of Mercy, died in 1995.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Helen R. Nieratka, 86, died in Pittsfield on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003. Beloved grandmother to Kevan and Steaven Nieratka.
There will be no calling hours at the DWYER FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Elder Services of Berkshire County in care of the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
