Virginia F. Dow, 87, of 269 Cloverdale St. died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center. She had resided at Springside of Pittsfield for more than two years.
Born in Pittsfield on May 22, 1915, daughter of Roy F. Nash Sr. and Nellie S. Foster Nash, she was a graduate of Pittsfield High School and the former Berkshire Business College.
She was employed as a teller by the former Berkshire County Savings Bank, now Berkshire Bank, for 34 years, retiring in 1977. Previously, she had been employed by Shapiro Motors and the Naval Ordnance Division at GE.
Mrs. Dow was a longtime member of Immanuel Community Church where she had served as a collector and a member of its Ladies' Guild. She was a past president of the Women's Club of Pittsfield and a longtime volunteer at Hancock Shaker Village. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, braiding rugs and gardening.
Her husband, Clifton H. Dow, died Feb. 24, 1975. She leaves two brothers, Paul F. Nash of Pittsfield and Malcolm D. Nash of Kittery Point, Maine, and a sister, Ruth I. Melle of Pittsfield.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Virginia F. Dow will be tomorrow, Dec. 28, at 11 at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Angela Buchauer, pastor of Immanuel Community Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 10 to 11 at the funeral home.
Among survivors are her sisters-in-law, Mercedes Nash and Mary Nash; her brother-in-law, Joseph Melle; many nieces and nephews, and longtime friend, Bob Quagliani. She was predeceased by a brother, Roy F. Nash Jr., and a sister, Olive Guerin. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Immanuel Community Church Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
