Pasquale F. "Patsy" Mazzeo

Pasquale F. "Patsy" Mazzeo, 66, of 56 Saratoga Drive died yesterday at home after a long battle with cancer. He was co-owner of Mazzeo's Importing Market and founder of Mazzeo's Ristorante.

Born in Cairano, province of Avellino, Italy, on Feb. 19, 1936, son of Canio M. and Angela R. Murano Mazzeo, he graduated from schools in Italy and Venezuela. In 1951, he emigrated to Caracas, Venezuela, where he lived for eight years. He emigrated to the United States and settled in Pittsfield in 1959.

Mr. Mazzeo and his brother, Rodolfo Mazzeo, owned and operated Mazzeo's Importing Market, on Columbus Avenue and later Fenn Street, for 25 years, until 1987. In 1988, with his wife and family, he founded Mazzeo's Ristorante, which is now owned by his sons. He retired in 2000.

He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church. He was a member of the Berkshire Hills Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, traveling and was a Red Sox fan.

He leaves his wife, the former Gabriella Trotta, whom he married Aug. 1, 1965, in Salerno, Italy. Besides his wife and his brother, of Pittsfield, he leaves two sons, Anthony C. Mazzeo and Michael C. Mazzeo, both of Pittsfield; a daughter, Angela M. Johansen of Pittsfield, and two grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Pasquale F. "Patsy" Mazzeo, 66, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002. Beloved husband of Gabriella Trotta Mazzeo. Devoted father of Anthony C. Mazzeo and his wife, Melissa, Michael C. Mazzeo and Angela M. Johansen and her husband, Richard B. Loving grandfather of Mia and Téa Mazzeo. Dear brother of Rodolfo Mazzeo and his wife, Gentilia. Cherished uncle of Michael A., Rudy, Sandra and Mark Mazzeo, Cynthia Mazzeo Gray and many other nieces and nephews.

Also survived by several cousins. Brother-in-law of Antonietta Mazzeo. Pasquale's main interest in life was his family, relatives, friends and his grandchildren, who brought him many hours of happiness. The funeral services will be Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 10 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at Mount Carmel Church celebrated by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor.

Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday, Dec. 9, from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in care of the funeral home. He was predeceased by a brother, Valentino P. Mazzeo.
