Rita J. Joyce

Rita J. Joyce, 87, of 97 Richard Drive died yesterday morning at 191 Elm St., home of her son, the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor of Sacred Heart Church.

Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 26, 1915, daughter of Joseph S. and Florence Burke Frawley, she was a 1932 graduate of St. Joseph's High School and attended the former Hillcrest Hospital School of Nursing.

Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Joyce was employed as a clerk by the former Al's Variety for many years.

She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and a member of its Rosary Sodality and a life member of the Rosary Sodality of North American Martyrs Church in Lanesboro. She read several mysteries a week, as well as other books of interest, and enjoyed arts and crafts.

Besides her son, she leaves two daughters, Martha J. Huggins, with whom she lived, and Judith A. Curtain of Troy, N.Y.; three other sons, Joseph P. Joyce and Peter D. Joyce, both of Pittsfield, and Philip F. Joyce of Cohoes, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Rita J. Frawley Joyce, 87, died Sunday morning, Nov. 17. She is also survived by her daughters-in-law, Patricia A. Joyce and Wendy M. Joyce; her sons-in-law, William F. Huggins and John E. Curtain, and sisters-in-law Rita G. Joyce and Ann S. Frawley. She was predeceased by two sisters, Sister Florence Joseph, SSJ, and Helen E. Nicklaw, and two brothers, John J. and William F. Frawley; and twin infant grandchildren, Timothy and Amy Joyce. A Celebration of her Life will begin with visiting hours tomorrow from 3 to 7 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME.

The Celebration will continue Wednesday from the funeral home at 10:15 followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by her son, the Rev. James K. Joyce. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Church or to the Alumni Fund at St. Joseph's Central High School, both in care of the funeral home.
