Gladys L. Knight, 81, of 70 Hazelwood Terrace died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on June 24, 1921, daughter of Walter and Agnes Wager Wilker, she was a 1939 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
She was employed as a secretary by the Pittsfield School Department for 17 years. She also worked at the former North Junior High in the reading and special education department for three years.
An avid bowler with the senior league at Candle Lanes, she was a member of the Quality Time Club of the GE Credit Union and enjoyed baking.
She leaves her husband, George D. Knight, whom she married April 4, 1942; four daughters, Jayne E. Knowlton and Jean E. Segal, both of Vienna, Va., Patricia A. Garvey of Pittsfield and Pamela J. Burt of Hopedale; a sister, Bernice Chittenden of Pittsfield; a brother, Donald Wilker of Pittsfield; and 10 grandchildren. She was predeceased by another daughter, Karen L Miller, who died Jan. 1, 2002.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Gladys will be lovingly missed by her three sons-in-law, Michael W. Garvey, Edward Burt and Clifford Miller III; and was predeceased by two sons-in-law, Capt. Robert Knowlton and Joseph. She was also an "Awesome Baker."
Funeral services for Gladys L. Knight, 81, who died Nov. 13, 2002, will be Saturday at noon at Morningside Baptist Church with the Rev. Linda M. Shaw, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 at the DERY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Morningside Baptist Church Memorial Fund in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
