Albert N. "Bart" Pignatelli Sr.

Albert N. "Bart" Pignatelli Sr., 86, of Taconic Avenue died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Lenox on Aug. 20, 1916, son of Giovanni and Nicolina Caggino Pignatelli, he was a 1935 graduate of Lenox High School, where he participated in sports. An Army veteran of Worls War II, he volunteered in 1941 and served in the European theater.
He was awarded the Bronze Star and four battle stars for his service in the Battle of the Bulge, the Rhineland, and in campaigns in Central Europe and Northern France. He was honorably discharged in 1945. For 40 years, he owned and operated A.N. Pignatelli and Sons, painting contractors, a business carried on by his sons, Gary and Nick, following his retirement.
He served as a special police officer for many years, working details such as high school sporting events, dances at the local community center and at Tanglewood. Mr. Pignatelli was a Little League coach; a political campaign manager for his brother, John J. Pignatelli, and a volunteer fireman.
He was a member of the Father William F. Davitt Knights of Columbus Council and the Stickles-Turnure Veteran of Foreign Wars post. He enjoyed his gardens and thoroughbred horse racing.
He and his wife, the former Charlotte Hunt, a retired teacher and principal in Lenox, were married May 10, 1944. Besides his wife and brother, of Lenox, he leaves three sons, Gary F. Pignatelli and Albert N. Pignatelli Jr., both of Lenox, and Michael A. Pignatelli of Nashua, N.H.; two sisters, Josephine Pignatelli and Louise Berrigan, both of Lenox, and six grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Bart Pignatelli is also survived by his grandchildren Andrea, Mark, Daniel, Adam, Benjamin and Sarah Pignatelli; and three daughters-in-law, Mary Jane, Deborah and Maryellen. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph J. Pignatelli, and two sisters, Marguerite Russo and Filomena Pignatelli.
The funeral will be tomorrow, Sept. 10, at 10:15 from ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Ann's Church concelebrated by the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor, and the Rev. Daniel B. Brunton, pastor emeritus. Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home on Main Street in Lenox will be today from 4 to 7. For those considering donations in Bart's name, the family suggests St. Ann's Church in care of the funeral home. He enjoyed his family and friends, and in later years, all events involving his grandchildren.
