Wayne J. Giroux, 53, of 219 Appleton Ave. died Tuesday evening at home of Lou Gehrig's disease.
Born in North Adams on Jan. 9, 1949, son of Roland A. and Marion LeSage Giroux, he was a graduate of Drury High School. He also earned his associate's degree from Berkshire Community College.
He had moved from North Adams to Northampton and returned to Pittsfield in 1982. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and received various medals. He transferred to the Navy Reserve, where he remained until 1990. He received the Meritorious Service Medal.
He was employed as a truck driver for O'Connell Oil Associates for 15 years, retiring in 2001 due to ill health. Mr. Giroux was a communicant of St. Mark's Church, where he was a cantor and a member of the Senior Choir. A licensed amateur radio operator, he was a member of the Amateur Radio Relay League.
He leaves his wife, the former Deborah J. Ansanitis, whom he married April 7, 1973, in St. Catherine's Church in Leeds; a daughter, Katherine C. Giroux of Pittsfield; a son, Matthew W. Giroux of Pittsfield; a brother, Neil C. Giroux of North Adams; and a grandson.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Wayne J. Giroux, 53, in Pittsfield on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Beloved grandfather of Dylan Burke of Pittsfield and son-in-law of Edward and Jean Ansanitis of Easthampton. Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 7, at 9:15 from the DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Mark's Church, celebrated by the Rev. Henry Dorsch, pastor.
Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow, Friday, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the ALS Division of the Muscular Dystrophy Association or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, care of the Dwyer Funeral Home.
