Mary S. Maston

Mary S. Maston, 85, of 41 Branch St. died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on May 2, 1917, daughter of Emanuel A. and Mary Zahn Schiffman, she attended local schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1936. Mrs. Maston was employed as the head bookkeeper at the former Pittsfield Hat Works Co. on Fourth Street prior to her marriage.
She later became the private secretary to the company president until the company closed. She was a communicant of St. Mark's Church and a longtime volunteer in the food concession stand at Saturday evening bingo for the church.
She was a 30-year member of the Women's Auxiliary for the Berkshire Beagle Club. Her husband, Thomas T. Maston, whom she married July 20, 1940, died May 12, 1988. She leaves four sons, Thomas E. Maston, Richard J. Maston, Lawrence E. Maston and Gordon A. Maston, all of Pittsfield; a sister, Eva S. Hovey of Pittsfield; nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mary S. Maston, 85, of Pittsfield, died Sept. 2. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Helen "Betty" Schiffman of Berkshiretown. Calling hours at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be Wednesday from 4 to 7.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 8:15 a.m. from the funeral home, followed with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Mark's Church.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in care of the funeral home.
