Rita R. Avery, 84, of 109 Housatonic St. died Friday at Timberlyn Heights Nursing Home, where she had resided since July.
Born in Pittsfield on June 23, 1918, daughter of Albert and Ruth Decelles Beauchemin, she was a 1936 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She resided in Richmond until 1980, when she returned to Pittsfield.
In 2000, she moved to Cameron House. She was employed as a secretary by M.T. Cavanaugh Plumbing and Heating in Great Barrington and for Motorola in Pittsfield. She enjoyed camping, traveling in a recreational vehicle and spending winters in Florida.
Her husband, Robert F. Avery Sr., whom she married March 25, 1941, died May 28, 1987. She leaves two sons, Robert F. Avery Jr. of Great Barrington and William F. Avery of Vancouver, Wash.; a daughter, Joyce Petijean of Waterford, N.Y.; two brothers, Robert Beauchemin of Dalton and Kenneth Beauchemin of Pittsfield; a sister, Marie Palidino of Lenox; eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial Mass for Rita R. Beauchemin Avery, who died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, will be conducted Wednesday, Sept. 4, at 10 at St. Patrick's Church in West Stockbridge by the Rev. Steven F. McGuigan, pastor.
Burial will follow in Richmond Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Expressions of sympathy in Rita's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230, which is in charge of arrangements. She was predeceased by a sister, Alberta O'Neil.
