Nellie J. "Jane" Vickery Hill, 85, of 30 Lucille St. died yesterday at home after a long illness.
Born in Nassau, N.Y., on July 25, 1917, daughter of Alfred and Nellie Thayer Houghtlin, she moved to Pittsfield at a young age and was educated in local schools. Primarily a homemaker, she had worked in the laundry department at the former St. Luke's Hospital and then in the kitchen at Hillcrest Hospital.
She enjoyed needlepoint. Her first husband, Winfred Vickery, whom she married July 1933, died June 25, 1969. Her second husband, George H. Hill, died March 6, 1988. She leaves a son, Richard G. Vickery, with whom she lived; a daughter, Dorothy N. Butler of Pittsfield; a sister, Agnes Demery of Pittsfield; six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Rita E. Tooley, died Dec. 1, 2000.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Nellie J. "Jane" Houghtlin Vickery Hill, age 85, died Aug. 28, 2002. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be Friday at 10 at the funeral home with the Rev. Charles F. Young, chaplain at HospiceCare, officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home. She was predeceased by two grandsons, Walter and Michael Tooley.
