Mr.C.Henry Kruidenier

Mr.C.Henry Kruidenier, 93, died Thursday August 22, 2002 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA. following a brief illness. He had resided at Kimball Farms in Lenox since December 1989.
The son of missionaries, he was born the youngest of eight children of Jeremias and Henrietta Poe1 Kruidenier in Tantah, Egypt on February 9, 1909. He and his family returned to Michigan in 1911. They returned to Egypt in 1914 where he attended the English school in Cairo until 1919. The family traveled again in 1919 to Illinois and Iowa and upon returning to Cairo in 1922 he attended the American University in Cairo until 1925. Returning to the U.S., Henry graduated from Monmouth High School, Monmouth, Illinois and received a B.S. degree from Monmouth College, majoring in Economics. In 1935 he received a MBA from Harvard University School of Business.
Henry retired from Corning Glass Works in 1972 where he served as Assistant Treasurer for many years. While working for Corning Glass, he also served as Treasurer for Corning Museum of Glass, Treasurer of the Corning Foundation and Treasurer of Steuben Glass. He also served with great pride as Trustee of Corning Savings and Loan and was an active member of the First Methodist Church in Corning. Prior to this, he worked as a Certified Public Accountant from 1935 until 1940 for Price Waterhouse Company in New York, New York.
While 1iving on Cape Cod during his retirement years, Henry actively volunteered his accounting skill to Senior Services in Orleans, MA and the Provincetown and Chatharn Housing Authorities. Later, while living at Kimball Farms, Henry again used these same skills to help with the Residents’ Association, the Annual Staff Fund, the Thrift Shop and the Pinnacle Store. He completely enjoyed his work with the residents of Kimball Farms and enjoyed many cups of coffee in the Pinnacle Store and many fine evening with friends.
Henry was married to A. Kathryn Hand on August 14, 1937. Mrs. Kruidenier predeceased he husband in 1983. Henry was also predeceased by his eldest son, Daniel, in 1975.
He is survived by his daughter Alice J. Kruidenier and her husband Greg Morrill of Stowe, VT. and his son James A. Kruidenier and Adele Tanner of Amherst, MA. He also leaves his grandchildren Laura K. Winters and her husband Paul Winters of Stowe, VT. and Curtis J. Nichols and his wife Joanne of Windham, ME. great-grandchildren Jessica Schuyler, Jacob Henry Winters and Jillian Marie Nichols and his son-in-law Curtis Nichols and his wife Susan of Jericho, VT.
Henry generously donated to numerous charities and so his family requests any donations be made to the charity of one’s choice, in memory of Henry and his desire to always give to those in need, through Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230. A reception for friends and family will be held at a later date. Information may be obtained by contacting Kimball Farms in Lenox, MA. A private inurnment will be on Cape Cod, in Orleans, MA.
