Ruth Marion Witherow

Ruth Marion Witherow, 87, of 151 Heights of Hill St., Whitinsville, formerly of Pittsfield and Worthington, died Monday at St. Camilla's Nursing Home in Whitinsville. Born in New Haven, Conn., on July 27, 1915, daughter of Ellis M. and Esther R. Rosen Fairhurst, she was a graduate of New Haven Commercial High School. She was employed as an executive secretary by the public accounting firm of Hunt, Bascom & Co. in Pittsfield for 10 years.

Mrs. Witherow was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. An avid gardener, she especially enjoyed roses. She also enjoyed traveling to the coast of Rhode Island, reading, doing puzzles and watching old movies. She was an accomplished knitter who also excelled in needlepoint, crewel and embroidery.

Her first husband, Halstead G. Emerson, died July 9, 1973. Her second husband, William C. Witherow, died May 14, 1975. She leaves a son, Philip G. Emerson of Kissimmee, Fl.; a daughter, Sandra L. Hebert of Whitinsville, with whom she made her home; a sister, Evelyn Petersen of Branford, Conn.; two grandsons and three great-grandsons.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Ruth Marion Fairhurst Witherow, who died Monday, Aug. 19, leaves two grandsons, Matthew T. Hebert of Holden and Shane F. Emerson of Greenfield; three great-grandsons, Logan Emerson, Dalton Emerson and Troy Emerson, all of Greenfield; two nephews, Mark L. Petersen and Lamont M. Petersen of Branford, Conn.; and a niece, Rosemary Fahey of Pittsfield. A graveside service will be held Thursday, Aug. 22, at 2 at St. Joseph's Cemetery, with the Rev. James C. Dannals, Rector of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, officiating. Those attending are invited to meet inside the cemetery gate at 1:50. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
