Norman Bellinger

Norman Ray Bellinger, 80, of Ballentine, S.C., a native of Pittsfield, died Tuesday.
Born on Dec. 3, 1921, son of Rudson R. and Zilpha Barnes Bellinger, he graduated from the former Dalton High School in 1939. He was also a graduate of the GE management training course.
He was a first lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was shot down over Belgium while flying a P-47 and was a prisoner of war for one year in Germany.
He was first employed by GE in Pittsfield and was transferred to Rome, Ga., in 1953 as a supervisor in the transformer winding department. He retired after 41 years and moved to South Carolina. After his retirement, he did consulting work for GE for its high-powered train.
Mr. Bellinger was a member of the United Methodist Church of Dalton and the VFW Post 448 in Pittsfield.
He leaves his wife, the former Miriam Hunt, whom he married Aug. 30, 1947; a daughter, Holly Wingard of Spartanburg, S.C.; a sister, Zilpha Thompson of Pittsfield; a brother, Rudson Bellinger of Dalton, and four grandchildren.
Memorial services will be today at 3 at CAUGHMAN-HARMAN FUNERAL HOME, Irmo/St.Andrews Chapel, in South Carolina. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.
