Paul Rapkowicz

Paul H. Rapkowicz, 75, of 125 Euclid Ave. died Monday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility.
Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 2, 1926, son of Harry and Rose Sidak Rapkowicz, he attended local schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1944. He attended Norwich University in Vermont.
He was a World War II Army veteran and was a staff sergeant with the U.S. Army Medical Corps at its hospital in Hawaii.
After his military service, he graduated from the drafting program at GE, where he then became employed as a draftsman for 40 years, retiring as a senior designer from the former GE ordnance systems plant in January 1987.
He was a communicant of St. Mark's Church and was president of the Draftsmen's Union Local 140 for seven years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a member of the Pittsfield Sportsman's Club. He also enjoyed attending all of his grandchildren's games.
His wife, the former Antoinette J. "Toni" Albano, whom he married May 13, 1950, died Nov. 1, 1987.
He leaves three sons, Stephen P. Rapkowicz and Timothy Rapkowicz, both of Pittsfield, and John N. Rapkowicz of Knoxville, Tenn.; two sisters, Mary Zack of Pittsfield and Sonya Boe of Gainesville, Fla., and eight grandchildren.
Calling hours at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be Thursday from 4 to 7. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home, followed with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mark's Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to either the CYC or to the Boys' and Girls' Club, both in care of the funeral home.
