William Nacorchuk

William Nacorchuk, 83, of 68B Highview Drive died Friday evening at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on March 29, 1919, son of Anthony and Anastasia Kowchuk Nykorchuk, he was a 1938 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
An Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, he was stationed in Greenland, Labrador and Iceland for four years. He was in California awaiting shipment to the Pacific when the atom bomb was dropped on Japan. While in the service, he attended technical programs and became a certified aircraft maintenance technician.
An accomplished carpenter and cabinetmaker, he was a member of the local carpenters' union and worked for various contractors for many years. He retired in 1982. He also worked at GE for a short time.
Mr. Nacorchuk was a communicant of St. John's Ukrainian Church. He enjoyed reading, gardening and woodland walks.
He and his wife, the former Helen Dmytryshyn, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary June 14.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Alice Chapman of Waterloo, Ontario, and Elaine West of Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers, Peter Nykorchuk of Lanesboro and Paul Nykorchuk of Pittsfield; a sister, Helen Morin of Pittsfield, and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be tomorrow, Aug. 13, at 10 at DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 at St. John's Ukrainian Catholic Church by the Rev. Yarosla Kostyk, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be today, Aug. 12, from 4 to 7, with a Panachyda Service at 6. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association in care of the funeral home, 776 North St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
