Nicholas David Mounsey, 18, of Castle Rock, Colo., formerly of Hazelwood Terrace, Pittsfield, died July 27 in Englewood, Colo., in a rock-climbing accident.
Born in North Charleston, S.C., on Sept. 8, 1983, son of Brett M. Mounsey of Kingsland, Georgia, and Audrey Bolger Mounsey Vincent of Castle Rock, he moved with his family to Pittsfield in 1986 and attended Egremont Elementary, Herberg Middle and Pittsfield High schools. He moved to Colorado in July 1999. He enjoyed playing the guitar and writing music, and was active in tae kwon do. While in Pittsfield, he was active with karate, the Boys' and Girls' Club basketball and local baseball. He played the trumpet in the middle and high school bands and was a paper carrier for The Eagle.
Besides his parents, he leaves three brothers, Sean Vincent of Castle Rock, Mark Mounsey of Georgia and Michael Mounsey of Texas; two sisters, Meagan Vincent of Castle Rock and Jessica Mounsey of Georgia; his stepmother, Mary Mounsey of Kingsland; his stepfather, David W. Vincent of Castle Rock; his maternal grandmother and stepgrandfather, Kay and Roger Morris of Castle Rock; his paternal grandfather, Don Mounsey of Georgia; his stepgrandparents, William and Doris Vincent of Rock Hill, S.C., and his stepgreat-grandmother, Braxie Harbert of Shinnston, West Virginia.
