Mary I. Tobin, 87, of 209 Housatonic St., Lenox, a former resident of 92 Seymour St., died yesterday morning at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 27, 1914, daughter of Jesse E. and Mary Mead Moore, she was a 1932 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a 1935 graduate of the former Henry W. Bishop School of Nursing.
She was employed as a registered nurse at the former Pittsfield General Hospital and later ran the Nurses Professional Registry. She retired in 1973.
Mrs. Tobin was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a member of the Henry W. Bishop Alumni.
Her husband, Francis J. Tobin, a lieutenant in the Pittsfield Fire Department, whom she married Oct. 11, 1941, died Feb. 11, 1977.
She leaves five sons, Francis X. Tobin of Tempe, Ariz., William E. Tobin and James J. Tobin, both of Pittsfield, Bernard A. Tobin of Charlton and Christopher S. Tobin of Beverly Hills, Calif.; two daughters, Mary J. Downing of Pittsfield and Bernadette Clay of Cheshire; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Francis Moore and James Moore, and a grandson, John Tobin Downing.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 10, at 8:15 from the DWYER FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 in St. Joseph's Church celebrated by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday, Aug. 9, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. If friends desire memorial donations may be made to Camp Russell Boys' & Girls' Club camp.
