Joseph Lysonski

Joseph C. Lysonski, 85, of 15 Weller Ave. died Sunday of a heart attack.

Born in Pittsfield on May 10, 1917, son of Charles and Mary Dubiski Lysonski, he was a 1935 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He also trained at Dickinson College for the Army Air Force.

An Army Air Force veteran of World War II, he was trained as a B-29 navigator/radar operator/bombardier. He was a member of the Gypsy Task Force and served in Guam from 1944 until 1946. He was awarded the Presidential unit citation for the longest bombing mission of the war to northern Japan of 7,600 miles, round trip.

He was a member of the Air Force Reserve until 1958. He was radiological monitoring team leader from 1958-1969 in Pittsfield. He also was the recipient of the American, Victory and Asiatic campaign medals, and a Distinguished Unit Badge.

He began as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Pittsfield in 1936. He was selected in 1971 as procurement coordinator with 26 post offices in Berkshire County and 11 in Vermont. He was foreman of letter carriers and accident investigator in 1978. He retired in 1984 after 48 years of service.

Mr. Lysonski was a communicant of Holy Family Church. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol in Pittsfield from 1939-40, a lifetime member and past president of the Polish Community Club and a member of the Pittsfield VFW Post 448.

He leaves his wife, the former Ann Parnish "Panus," whom he married Nov. 15, 1947, in Holy Family Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves four sons, Richard J. Lysonski of Pittsfield, Joseph C. Lysonski Jr. of Harrison, N.Y., Steven Lysonski of Brookfield, Wis., and Paul T. Lysonski of Wakefield; five sisters, Helen Rendra of Feeding Hills, Wanda Rock of Ormand Beach, Fla., Jadwiga Jayko of Cheshire, Jennie Lane of San Jose, Calif., and Dorothy Keopp of Center Hill, Fla.; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be Friday, Aug. 2, at 9:15 a.m. from DWYER FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 in Holy Family Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, Aug. 1, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Family Church in care of Dwyer Funeral Home.
