G. Kenneth Bostley

G. Kenneth Bostley, 93, formerly of 91 Smith St., Greenfield, died Saturday at Epoch Assisted Living Center at Melbourne Place.

Born in Troy, N.Y., on Jan. 22, 1909, son of Albert and Mary E. Burke Bostley, he moved to Greenfield in 1911 and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1927. He also graduated from the Bank Administration Institute at the University of Wisconsin in 1959.

Mr. Bostley was employed by the former First National Bank and Trust Co., which later became the Bank of New England, for 47 years. He rose to the positions of vice president and comptroller, and retired as senior vice president in 1974.

He was a communicant and former lector at Blessed Sacrament Church in Greenfield and served on the parish building committee as treasurer for many years. He also was treasurer for the Franklin County Catholic Stewardship Campaign, a former member of the Greenfield Military Band, and a trained calligrapher who provided expertise to the parish on many occasions.

He was a former trustee for Farren Memorial Hospital in Turners Falls and treasurer of its building fund for many years. He was the former assistant treasurer and treasurer for the Community Chest, now known as the United Way of Franklin County, for more than 30 years, and was past president of the Western Mass. chapter of the Bank Administration Institute for several years.

His wife, the former Malvina M. Letourneau, whom he married Oct. 12, 1931, in Holy Trinity Church in Greenfield, died in May 2001.

He leaves a daughter, Sister Jean R. Bostley of the Sisters of St. Joseph, of Pittsfield; a son, Paul G. Bostley of Marblehead and Naples, Fla.; a sister, Ernestine R. Wheeler of Nashua, N.H.; three grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, July 31, at 11 at Blessed Sacrament Church by the Rev. Timothy J. Campoli, pastor. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Greenfield. Visiting hours will be omitted at the request of the deceased. Family will receive guests Wednesday morning in the vestibule of the church from 10:30 until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Sisters of St. Joseph "Retirement Fund" in care of Mont Marie, 34 Lower Westfield Road, Holyoke, MA 01040, or to Nancamp, c/o Paul Bostley, 107 Front St., Marblehead, MA 01945.
