Mary O'Connell, 81, of 136 Blythewood Drive died Tuesday at Laurel Lake Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Lee.
Born in Pittsfield on May 13, 1921, daughter of James and Catherine Doheny Makes, she was a graduate of Pittsfield High School and LaSalle Junior College.
Mrs. O'Connell was a homemaker. She was a member of The Country Club of Pittsfield and enjoyed tennis and golf.
She leaves her husband, Stephen G. O'Connell, whom she married Nov. 29, 1947.
Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Thomas S. O'Connell and Ralph M. O'Connell, both of Pittsfield; a brother, Nicholas J. Makes of Pittsfield; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Another son, Stephen T. O'Connell, died Jan. 1, 2001. She was also predeceased by a brother, James Makes.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 26, at 9:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Charles' Church, celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires or to St. Charles' Church in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
