Donald LaMudge

Donald H. LaMudge, 86, of Cameron House, 109 Housatonic St., died Friday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 31, 1915, son of Arthur and Margaret Higgins LaMudge, he attended local schools and moved to Housatonic in 1937 and resided in Homestead, Fla., in the 1970s. He returned to the Berkshires last year.
He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the European theater as an intelligence officer.
Mr. LaMudge was employed as a service technician with Tropigas while residing in Florida. He retired in 1978. He also had been employed by the former Monument Mills and as a milkman for the former Maple Shade Farm, both in Housatonic, and later by the former Home Gas Corp.
He served as a rector at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Stockbridge for many years. He enjoyed watching sports events.
His first wife, the former Emma E. Tassinari, whom he married April 18, 1938, in Corpus Christi Church in Housatonic, died in 1971.
His wife, the former Dorothy Rote Wells, died March 5, 2001.
He leaves a daughter, Judith A. Arnold of Sandisfield; a son, Donald D. LaMudge of Minneapolis; two stepdaughters, Judith Phillips of Sheffield and Karen Rohrer of Florida City, Fla.; seven grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and five stepgreat-grandchildren. Another son, Robert LaMudge, died in 1987.
The funeral will be Tuesday, July 23, at 9 from BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield by the Rev. John Lis, pastor. Private burial services will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, July 22, from 4 until 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy be made to either the Cameron House Activity Fund or the American Diabetes Fund, in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. There will be a gathering of friends and family at the home of Judith and Francis Arnold at White Birch Farm, Route 57, Sandisfield, following the funeral Mass.
