Gertrude F. Higgins, 89, of New Lombard Road, Chicopee, died Thursday at Birch Manor Nursing Home in Chicopee.
Born in Pittsfield on June 30, 1913, daughter of Daniel F. and Agnes B. Curtin Farrell, she graduated from Pittsfield schools and received a bachelor of science degree from St. Elizabeth's College in Convent Station, N.J.
She left Pittsfield after college. She had resided at the South Shore in Boston and, for the past 10 years, in Chicopee.
She worked as a bookkeeper for several companies.
While in Pittsfield, she was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Pittsfield.
Her husband, Matthew F. Higgins, died in 1971.
She leaves a son, Daniel J. Higgins of Brighton; a daughter, Kathleen A. Mruk of South Hadley, and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Friday, July 19, at St. Joseph's Church in Pittsfield at 9:30 a.m. The burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Birch Manor Nursing Home, 44 New Lombard Road, Chicopee, MA 01020. CIERPIAL MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME in Chicopee is in charge of arrangements.
