Effie Pechewlys, 86, formerly of Appleton Avenue, died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Nashua, N.H., on Aug. 10, 1915, she attended Nashua schools. She had resided in Pittsfield since 1938.
Mrs. Pechewlys was employed as an assembler at Eaton Paper Co. for several years, retiring in 1963.
She was a member of St. George the Tropaiophoros Greek Orthodox Church and the Ladies Philoptochos Society. She enjoyed cooking and her grandchildren.
Her husband, George Pechewlys, died in 1984.
She leaves a daughter, Elaine T. Gratton of Pittsfield; a sister, Penny Astergiou of New Haven, Conn., and six grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother and a sister.
Funeral services for Mrs. Pechewlys will be held today at 12:45 p.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME, followed by services at 1 p.m. at St. George the Tropaiophoros Greek Orthodox Church, with the Rev. Paul C. Bebis, pastor of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Enfield, Conn., officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Friends may call today from 12 to 12:45 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Pechewlys may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
