Floyd J. Morse, 85, of 34 Burr Drive died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center. He served on the Board of Appeals and on the Conservation Commission.
Born in Burlington, Vt., on April 12, 1917, son of Jed and Florence Brown Morse, he attended Pittsfield High School.
He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran and a charter member and first commandant of the Pittsfield Marine Corps League. Mr. Morse was employed by GE in the power transformer department for 40 years as a winder, retiring in August 1979.
He was a member of the Congregational Church and the Dalton American Legion. He was a life member of the Dalton Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs and the General Electric Athletic Association.
He married his first wife, the former Barbara Tufts, in 1937. They were married 18 years. She is now deceased.
His wife, the former Eleanor F. Murphy, whom he married Nov. 1, 1956, died March 13, 1989.
He leaves a daughter, Bonnie F. Glendon of Dalton; a granddaughter; two great-grandchildren, and his companion of 12 years, Charlotte E. Melle of Pittsfield.
The funeral will be tomorrow at 11 at BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Dalton, with the Rev. Robert Kyte, pastor of Dalton Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton. Calling hours at the funeral home will be today, Tuesday, from 5 to 7. Among survivors are his granddaughter, Darlene Brown; his great-grandchildren, Ally and Abby, and his cousin, Mary Jones of Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Dalton Fire Department in care of the funeral home, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
