William Haines

William E. Haines, 65, of 51 Noblehurst Ave. died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in West Stockbridge on March 5, 1937, son of Emery and Rose Hains Haines, he was a 1955 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He served in the Army from 1956 to 1958.
Mr. Haines was employed by GE in the plastics division as a chemical laboratory technician in its research and development laboratory for 35 years, retiring in 1992.
An outdoorsman, he enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Berkshire Giant Pumpkin Growers, the Massachusetts Sportsmen's Club and the National Rifle Association. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans, and he was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. He was a fan of the New York Yankees.
He leaves his wife, the former Alma M. Palmer, whom he married April 28, 1962; a son, Robert W. Haines of Lanesboro; two daughters, Gloria J. Yennaco of Londonderry, N.H., and Melissa R. Haines of Thornton, Colo.; a brother, Norman Haines of Hinsdale; a sister, Lucille Larrivee of Delmar, N.Y., and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Maurice Haines, and a sister, Jeanne Colwell.
Funeral services for Mr. Haines will be held Friday, June 28, at 10:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, celebrated by the Rev. Paul Laflamme, parochial vicar. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Haines may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield 01201.
