Elizabeth Derivan

Elizabeth M. Derivan, 88, of No. 8 Pine Hill, Kimball Farms, died Tuesday at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center.

Born in Pittsfield on April 8, 1914, daughter of William J. and Catherine Conry Derivan, she attended local parochial schools and graduated from St. Joseph's High School in 1932. She also graduated from Berkshire Business College.

Miss Derivan was employed by Equitable Life Insurance for six years and then by Stephenson and Co. for four years. She was also employed by Berkshire Life Insurance Co. for 16 years, first in the agency department, licensing and contracting agents, and then in the personnel department in the training and employee benefits section. In 1968, she joined the ordnance department at GE as a payroll clerk and retired on Jan. 1, 1977.

She was a 45-year communicant of Sacred Heart Church, where she was an organizer and first president of the Junior Rosary Sodality. She was also a Girl Scout leader of the Senior Girl Scouts at Sacred Heart Church and a member and president of the League of Charity for Brightside Orphanage for many years. She was a former member of the Wahconah Country Club in Dalton and the Skyline Country Club in Lanesboro.

After her retirement, she and her sister, Catherine, spent six months each year at their home in Hollywood, Fla., and attended St. Theresa's Church, where she was president to the Catholic Women's Club for four years. They moved to Kimball Farms in June 1990, and she was a member of St. Ann's Church.

She was also a member of the Choruspondents in Hollywood, a singing group who traveled and put on shows in condominiums and hotels around South Florida. She was also the treasurer of the group for several years. She enjoyed golfing, swimming, travel and cards.

She leaves a sister, Catherine T. Derivan, with whom she made her home, and her primary caregiver, Mary Jane Pignatelli, her cousin, of Lenox.

A funeral Mass will be held Monday, July 1, at 11 a.m. at St. Ann's Church in Lenox, celebrated by the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Pittsfield. There are no calling hours at DWYER FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Ann's Church in care of DWYER FUNERAL HOME in her memory.
