Joseph Carnevale

Joseph Raymond Carnevale, 82, of 27 Donna Ave. died yesterday at Craneville Place of Dalton, where he was admitted June 21.
Born in Pittsfield on March 8, 1920, son of Erasimo and Vittoria Caparelli Carnevale, he attended local schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1939.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
Mr. Carnevale was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier in Pittsfield for 26 years. He retired in 1983. He was first employed by the former Rosa and Busy Bee restaurants and later by Joseph Francese Building Contractor.
He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and a member of the Charter '99 Scholarship Committee and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 15 of Pittsfield. He also was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Union Branch 286 of Berkshire County.
He enjoyed drawing, making crafts, gardening and cooking.
He and his wife, the former Ella M. Datre, celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary May 29.
Besides his wife, he leaves four sisters, Nancy Froio, Elizabeth Barosso and Carmen Walto, all of Pittsfield, and Jeanne Caropreso of Kernersville, N.C. He was predeceased by three sisters, Marie Genovese, Philomena Dus, Natalie M. Carnevale, RN, and two brothers, Victor Carnevale and Rocco A. Carnevale.
The funeral will be Thursday, June 27, at 8 a.m. from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday, June 26, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mount Carmel Church Centennial Fund or American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
