Mary L. Gilson

Mary L. Gilson, 97, of Pine Hill at Kimball Farms, formerly of Rolling Hills, died yesterday at Providence Care Center of Lenox, where she had resided since March 29.

Born in Bannales, province of Brittany, France, on June 16, 1905, daughter of Joseph and Frances Kervran LeBeaux, she was educated in Lenox schools and the former Berkshire Business College. After completing her education, she moved to Detroit and then to Grosse Point Farms, where she resided for 35 years.

She was employed by Manufacturers National Bank in Detroit for a few years. After returning to Pittsfield, she worked for the Pittsfield School Department.

Mrs. Gilson was a communicant of St. Ann's Church and was a member of its Rosary-Altar Society. She was a member of the Women's Club of Pittsfield, a volunteer at the Edith Wharton Restoration at The Mount in Lenox, and she was an avid bridge player.

Her first husband, Charles Martin Coughter, formerly of Pittsfield, died in 1956.

Her second husband, Charles D. Gilson, whom she married in 1965, died in 1985.

She leaves three stepsons, Richard Gilson of Lenox, Charles Gilson of Pittsfield and Leo Gilson of Marblehead; a stepdaughter, Mary Spina of Lenox; 11 step-grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a stepson, Christopher Gilson; a brother, Yves LeBeaux; two sisters, Alice Poulin and Emilie Keith, and a nephew, Robert D. Keith.

The funeral will be Friday at 10 from ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 at St. Ann Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Pittsfield. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 9 until the time of the funeral. In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make memorial contributions to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or Providence Care Center of Lenox, both in care of the funeral home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
