David R. Rehbein

David R. Rehbein, 66, of 79 Lakeshore Drive, West Brookfield, formerly of Pittsfield and Lenox, died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital in Springfield.

Born in Springfield on Feb. 24, 1936, son of Edwin G. and Lillian Johnson Rehbein, he graduated from the former Springfield Technical High School and from the University of Massachusetts in 1958. A Berkshire County resident for 15 years, he resided in Longmeadow for 32 years until moving to West Brookfield last year.

An Army veteran, he served in Nuremberg, Germany, from 1958 to 1960.

He was a director of claims at Aetna Life & Casualty in Hartford, Conn., for 34 years, retiring in 1994.

He was a member of the Longmeadow Lodge of Masons since 1972, the Western Massachusetts Football Officials Association since 1964 and the National Ice Hockey Officials Association from 1966 to 1986. He was also involved with sports in the Longmeadow area. He served as park commissioner for the Longmeadow Parks and Recreation Department from 1974 to 2002. He also was a former member of the Pittsfield Chamber of Commerce.

He and his wife, the former Lynne Ochieano, a Pittsfield native, were married Sept. 22, 1962, in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Tracy R. Ferrando of Houston; a son, Jeffrey Rehbein of Longmeadow, and a granddaughter.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 3 to 8 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Longmeadow. The funeral will be Monday at 11 at St. Andrew's. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Massachusetts General Hospital, Pancreatic Cancer Research, in care of Mass. General Development Office, 100 Charles River Plaza, Suite 600, Boston, MA 02114; to the Longmeadow Park and Recreation Department, 735 Longmeadow St., Longmeadow, MA 01106, or to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 335 Longmeadow St., Longmeadow, MA 01106.
