Edward J. Barscz, 65, of 21 Highlawn Drive died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on July 21, 1936, son of John and Stella Stark Barscz, he graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1955.
He served in the Air Force from 1955 to 1959.
Mr. Barscz was employed by American Linen Supply for 41 years, retiring in 1994 as service manager.
He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and president of the Polish Falcons of America Nest 580. A 50-year member of the Falcons, he also served as president from 1979 to 1989 and was presented its Gold Legion of Honor Award for his years of service. He also was a member of the Polish Community Club.
He enjoyed fishing and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and Celtics, and the New England Patriots.
His first wife, the former Mary Ann Mancivalano, whom he married June 20, 1959, died Oct. 25, 1986.
He leaves his wife, the former Patricia A. Shandley, whom he married Nov. 10, 1990, and a sister, Jane Lykins of Sun City, Calif.
The funeral will be Wednesday, June 5, at 9 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA HOME, 5 Elm St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker CSS, pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow, June 4, from 4 to 7. Members of the Polish Falcons will meet at the funeral home Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. for a ritual service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Starzynski Scholarship Fund of the Polish Falcons or the Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association in care of the funeral home.
