Margaret Eileen Coyne, 95, formerly of 91 Harvard St. and Melbourne Place died Tuesday afternoon at Springside of Pittsfield.
Born in Pittsfield on May 12, 1907, daughter of John T. and Margaret Sheerin Coyne, she was a 1924 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She received her education degree from the former Westfield Normal School, now Westfield State College, and the former North Adams State College, now MCLA.
She taught Grades 5 and 6 at the former Mercer School and Grade 6 at the former Pomeroy School. Following her retirement, she taught at the former St. Mary's Grammar School. She was also employed during the summers at the Pontoosuc Lake Beach. She also chaperoned Friday night dances and the Boys' and Girls' Club for many years.
Her closest survivors are a niece, Kathleen A. Canning of Pittsfield, and two nephews, Edward J. Kotski of Binghamton, N.Y., and Stephen A. Kotski of Pittsfield. She was predeceased by her sister, Kathleen M. Coyne Kotski.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 at St. Joseph's Church with the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, beginning at 9, at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the St. Joseph's High School Undergraduate Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
