Daniel F. Brophy

Daniel Francis Brophy, 69, of 67 Oak Street Ext. died Monday at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington, where he had resided since September 1998.

Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 3, 1932, son of John and Rose A. Brophy Harte, he was a 1950 graduate of the former Dalton High School.

An Army veteran, he served during the Korean War.

He was employed as a supervisor at the former A.H. Rice Silk Mill for more than 45 years, retiring in 1997. He also worked part-time at the former Shea's Florist in Dalton during the 1960s and at Hashim's Package Store and Harte's Package Store, both in Pittsfield.

He was a member of the Benjamin F. Sullivan American Legion Post 155 and the Anthony J. DeAngelus VFW Post 9566, both in Dalton. An avid bowler, he played in the Thursday Night Dalton American Legion Bowling League and the AC Wine Bowling League at the former Imperial Bowl. He also played in the Dalton CRA Men's Over 40 Slow Pitch softball league and was an avid follower of the Red Sox. He enjoyed horseshoes, woodworking, and vacationing at Caspian Lake in Greensboro, Vt.

He leaves his wife, the former Marcia J. Goodrich, whom he married July 19, 1952, in St. Agnes' Church; three daughters, Danette M. Green of Hinsdale, Nadine Donnell of York, Maine, and Sharon E. Duquette of Acton; a brother, Richard Brophy of West Stockbridge; two sisters, Rosemary Boino and Kathleen Vosburgh, both of Dalton; and eight grandchildren. A son, Timothy J. Brophy, died Feb. 12, 1993, and a brother, John Brophy, late of Adams.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 4, at 10:15 from the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Agnes' Church, celebrated by the Rev. Daniel B. Brunton, chaplain at Providence Care Center in Lenox. Those attending the funeral Mass at St. Agnes' are asked to park across the street in the First Congregational Church east parking lot on the left side as you face the church. There will be no parking in the St. Agnes' Church lot. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday, June 3, from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fairview Commons Resident Computer Fund in care of the Dery-Foley Funeral Home, 890 East Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
