Francis Penna Sr.

Francis R. "Moose" Penna Sr., 74, died Saturday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on March 21, 1928, son of Joseph and Elizabeth Sinopoli Penna, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Penna was employed by GE as a welder in the ordnance department for 38 years. He retired in 1988.
He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and a member of the Italian-American Club, and the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs. He enjoyed bowling and was a member of several leagues at Ken's Bowl. He also enjoyed gardening, playing bocce and watching his grandchildren's baseball and football games.
He and his wife, the former Eleanor L. Harvey, would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 31.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Francis R. "Rocky" Penna Jr. of Pittsfield and William J. Penna of Stratford, Conn.; a daughter, Paula J. Evangelisto of Pittsfield; three brothers, Joseph R. Penna, Vito A. Penna and John R. Penna, all of Pittsfield; four sisters, Ann Winters, Mary Ricci, Rose Pochinchuck and Elizabeth Froio, all of Pittsfield; eight grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. Mr. Penna was predeceased by two brothers, Anthony and James Penna.
The funeral will be tomorrow, May 29, at 9:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be today from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either HospiceCare of the Berkshires or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
