Eric J. Weeks

Eric Jon Weeks, 54, of 56 Foundry Village Road, Colrain, formerly of Pittsfield, died yesterday morning at home after a short illness. He moved to Colrain in 1999.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, on Oct. 7, 1947, son of Raymond F. and Alice L. Cohen Weeks, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1965 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He also attended Berkshire Community College, Boston University, Marlborough College and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

He served in the Army in Vietnam as a medic from 1967 to 1970.

Mr. Weeks was a self-employed writer, poet and novelist.

He had served as chair of Colrain's Conservation Commission and the Open Space and Recreation Planning Committee. He enjoyed hiking, backpacking, gardening, fly-fishing, woodworking and cooking.

He leaves his wife, the former Ellen J. Arruda, whom he married Oct. 12, 1986; two brothers, Joshua N. Weeks and David C. Weeks, both of Pittsfield; and a sister, Judith D. Keyser of Pittsfield. He was predeceased by a sister, Beth Ann Zocchi, in 1995.

There are no calling hours. A Memorial Service celebrating Eric's life will be held Friday at 11:30 at Pittsfield State Forest, Berry Pond, with Rabbi David Small, spiritual leader of Knesset Israel Synagogue, Pittsfield, officiating. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin Land Trust in care of the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201. The family will receive friends at the home of Ellen Weeks, 56 Foundry Village Road, Colrain, on Saturday from 1 to 5.
